About Maine Clay

Glacial Marine Blue Clay fires to a brick red.

Our pottery is made with locally sourced glacial marine “blue” clay, which was dug near our homestead at Wayne Village Pottery and created over 15,000 years ago when Central Maine was the floor of the ocean.

Contrary to the name, glacial marine “blue” clay fires to a brick red and was historically used by Native Americans and early colonial settlers for utility tableware and bricks.
